Defenitions of Hero and Myth:
  • Literary definition of a Hero-The principal sympathetic character (male or female) in a literary work. Heroes and heroines typically exhibit admirable traits: idealism, courage, and integrity, for example.
  • Literary definition of a Myth- First, myths tend to be stories about gods or supernatural beings, who have powers and abilities greater than those of humans. Second, myths usually tell about events set in the very distant past, often in the period before, or just after, humans first appeared on earth. Third, myths are frequently origin stories. They explain how the world or particular things within the world came to be. Or they explain how human customs and ways of life were first established. Fourth, myths are stories that were probably regarded as true and perhaps sacred by their original tellers. This, however, can sometimes be difficult to establish.

Examples in Literature:

  • Example 1: The Greek philosopher Zeno came up with a paradox of a tortoise and Achilles. According to the paradox, if the tortoise had a head start, Achilles would never be able to catch up. This refers to the problem with continuum. Aristotle came up with the theory that because Achilles never really stopped at the point of continuum, they do not exist and Achilles would catch up. Example 2: William Shakespeare made Achilles the main character in his poem "Troilus and Cressida."

Good detailed definition of what a hero is. You could give examples of someone you guys think is a hero. Very detailed definition of a myth and like the heroes, you should also give examples. Good resource links that help us define a hero and a myth.

Very detailed definition. I agree with the other team, you should add examples and maybe pictures.

Hi Achilles team! Very nice logo design. Why did you decide to use the skull as a symbol? Was there a specific story about Achilles that features a skull? Interesting story about Achilles and the tortoise...I thought it was going to be like the tortoise and the hare :) mrs s

Thank you Mrs. S. Well, we chose the skull because when we think of a warrior, we think of him killing. The skull represents death. Even though it's a little bit dark, we thoght it would look good on our wiki. And our friend Geralynne gave us the name "Achilles Girls" which we all thought was very fitting :)
